We moved into our house three years ago and the first project my wife tasked me with was removing the existing landscaping from around the house . I quickly removed the old, overgrown shrubbery with the expectation that we would soon be planting the bright-colored plants my wife had envisioned. Discouraged by the overwhelming choices and a general ineptitude of zone 5 horticulture, our house sat plantless for the next 2 1/2 years. I covered the plantless area with mulch and expected my wife to come home with the perfect plants. We would drive through the manicured lawns around our area for landscaping ideas. My wife quickly found the style of landscaping that stood out amongst the rest and traced it back to a local landscaper named John Temoshenko. She had a knack for identifying his work in every yard we passed within our community. I was not convinced I wanted to pay a landscaper for something I felt we could do ourselves, so the house continued to remain plantless. After much convincing, we finally made an appointment with John, and it was the best decision and investment we have made for our home. John is an approachable, professional landscaping artist, and has a great outlook with a tremendous sense of humor! Upon his initial visit he convinced us to remove some existing tree because of their location, variety, and misshapen form. Additionally, he offered to listen to my design plan to replace the existing sidewalk in order to enhance the landscaping around the front of our house. He later came out and marked the outline of the proposed sidewalk in which our concrete contractor soon brought to life. After completion of the sidewalk, John invited us over to his house to view the plants he had picked up from a massive purchase of nursery items, and let us identify the plants that we liked best. John and his crew arrived promptly the next day and constructed a theme- park- worthy landscape presentation around our house. I still cannot believe the transformation he made to our house by simply adding some plants and mulch. I immediately realized that I could have bought the same plants and mulch, but could have never achieved the same awe-inspiring result that John did because of his natural artistic vision. He is a true "landscape artist" and we couldn't be happier with our new landscaping!
